The AA was formed on June 29th 1905 by a group of motoring enthusiasts who met at the Trocadero restaurant in London's West End. They formed the Automobile Association, whose intitial intention was to to help motorists avoid police speed traps. This year saw The AA celebrating its centenary anniversary.

In 1967, The AA insurance broking service was introduced. In 1973, AA Relay was launched. This service guaranteed to transport any seriously broken-down vehicle along with it's driver, passengers, luggage and caravan or trailer to any destination in Britain.

The AA also offer hotel, restaurant and B&B certification, a driving school and insurance.

Roadside

This covers breakdown assistance if you are more than a quarter of a mile from your home. If the vehicle can't be fixed at the roadside, the vehicle and driver will be taken home or to a garage, depending which is nearest.

Prices start from £29

Relay

The same as Roadside, but including Relay. If The AA cannot arrange a prompt repair, you, your car and up to seven passengers will be transported home, or to any mainland UK destination. For the same price you as the driver or passanger can be covered, instead of the car.

Home Start

Roadside cover which also includes Home Start. As one in four breakdowns occur at home this cover provides assistance at home, or within a quarter of a mile of it. If they can't fix the problem there and then, they will arrange a tow to the nearest suitable repairer.

Stay Mobile

If a prompt repair can't be arranged then this cover offers alternatives. This cover provides either a replacement car for up to 72 hours, overnight accommodation, or onward public transport costs if it isn't possible to repair the car locally.

Breakdown Repair Cover

Your car may need replacement parts and garage labour following a breakdown. This cover will pay for your replacement parts and labour bills up to £500 per claim. You can have up to 5 claims per year.

European Breakdown Cover

European breakdown cover from The AA includes, roadside assistance and repairs in over 40 European countries. It also includes a tow to the nearest garage if your vehicle can't be fixed at the side of the road, alternative transport costs to allow you to continue on your journey and emergency accommodation if you need to stay overnight whilst repairs are being completed. Finally this cover will give you up to £75,000 worth of legal protection to sort out claims, traffic offences and representation. Your vehicle will be recovered back to the UK if it can't be repaired abroad for up to the market value of the car. This cover is offered as either single or annual trip cover.
